Jul 06 - The girls drew 2-2 with top side Subiaco. A hard fought win. The girls were unlucky to be 2-0 down at half time with the ball mostly in Subiaco’s half but we couldn't finish. We gave away 2 soft goals first one came from lax marking in the box form a corner then the second one came after our goalkeeper was injured after a Subi forward kicked her in the hand when she had possession of the ball and she refused to come off the pitch much to her courage.
The second half kicked off with a slight change with Bec going back into defense and Aimee going up front. The half started the same as the first with us attacking and not getting much reward. Then the same forward who hurt our keeper in the first half did the same thing but this time kicked her in the face forcing her to leave the ground this time we went down a player as we had no reserves this fired up the girls and gave them the killer instinct they have been lacking all year and in second from the restart showing a lot more aggression we pulled a goal back with Aimee Cohen dribbling past three defenders to hammer home a goal thanks to a nice through ball from Lisa Rosenheim.
Now Subi were on the back foot and started to panic first time they were in this sort of trouble. We were all over them now with every girl fighting for every ball and we were rewarded when Lisa hit the ball from outside the box to draw level. Subi tried to apply more pressure and started taking wild shots at our goal most of them going wide or miles over the bar we pulled everybody back into defense and tried to get them on the break and this nearly paid off. When we cleared the ball to Aimee Cohen who broke through their defense to see her first shot dribble to the keeper but for the first time followed it up and had the keeper panicking she fumbled. Aimee regained the ball only to see her shot go wide. With another 10 mins to play we defended grimly even Cassie Oblowiitz who was forced to go into Goals due to Ariella Ellert’s injury. A real gutsy performance by all especially as this was the top team and we have played them twice losing 6-1 and 7-0 respectively. Neil Davis - The proud coach
Jun 29 - The Girls had their first win of the season 1-0 against Hamersley. The Girls got out of the blocks very quickly and applied pressure on Hamersley defense making it hard for them to attack our goal this pressure paid off when Cassie Oblowitz tried her luck with a 20 yard shot which sailed nicely over the keepers head into the goal. Menora were 1-0 up for the first time this year.
We continued to apply pressure but could not convert our chances down the other end when Hamersley did attack, our amazing Goalkeeper Ariella Ellert made some brilliant and crucial saves. At half time we went in with the Goal advantage.
In the second half it was Hamersley who did the attacking and we were pinned into our half but brilliantly defended our goal with every player doing their job well and some more brilliant saves from Ariella. Late in the second half we managed to break form our half and had a couple of chances to score none better than Isabella Sharp who latched onto a through ball from Lauren Waghorn. Isabella ran past the defenders and with only the keeper to beat shot the ball hard and low only to see it hit the post and deflect wide.
A brilliant performance by all of the players and we hung on to ground out this winning performance. Hopefully this will give the girls more confidence and belief in themselves and we can kick on to have more wins. Neil Davis (coach)
Jun 15 - The team is improving each week we had plenty of attacks. In the first half thing were even until Melville was givenn a goal from a bad goalkick going straight to one of there players who hit the ball first time into a open goal as keeper who took the kick was out of position. Second half was not as good as the first as the rain bucketed down Melville handled the conditions better and ran over the top of us. Also lack of fire powwer up front cost us again as we could not convert our chances. Despite this I am happy with the teams effort and commitment to each other. The final score was Menora Flames 0 Melville City 4. Neil Davis Coach
Jun 8 - The girls were really unlucky to lose this game. They didn't play to well in the first half leavbing to many gils from the other tem un marked and we found ourselves 2 0 down. after a few changwes in positions in the second half Menora applied the pressure and attacked and kept Nedlands pinned in there half and had chance after chance but could only convert one of them. Nedlands rarely got into ouir half and never threatened our goal. Despite the loss the girls are really improving each week and are now starting to play soccer and startying to becopme aware of what they should be doing in thewre individual positions and also playing as a team. I am sure our first win is not far away. The final score was Menora Flames 1 Nedlands 2. Neil Davis Coach
Jun 1 - The girls played a good game and didn't deserve to be beaten but a lack of a permenant goalkeeper is showing we are conceding too many easy goals each week and the same thing happened again today. We will only get the results we deserve if we can find a girl who is and wants to play goalie as putting a diferent person in goal each half is too disruptive to the team and very frustrating. Besides that, the girls are learning and improving each week and becoming more confident with their ability and skills. The final score was Menora Flames 1 Melville City 3. Well done girls!
